How to Use Mandrel Bits & Sanding Bands

Master your e-file prep with this essential guide. Our mandrels are available in both 3/32" (Standard) and 1/8" sizes to fit your specific handpiece.

Note: The design or shape of the bit head may vary slightly from the product photo due to manufacturing updates or different production lots. However, the technical specifications, and performance remain consistent.

1. Choose Your Grit

  • Coarse (80 Grit): Heavy-duty removal of acrylics or hard gels.

  • Medium (100–120 Grit): Shaping enhancements and surface prep.

  • Fine (150–180 Grit): Refining shapes and smoothing surfaces.

  • Extra Fine (240+ Grit): Gentle natural nail prep and final finishing.

2. Quick Instructions

  1. Insert Mandrel: Place the metal rod into your handpiece and lock it securely.

  2. Attach Band: Slide the sanding band onto the mandrel until it is snug and flush.

  3. Set Speed: Use low speeds for natural nails and higher speeds for artificial enhancements.

  4. Technique: Apply light pressure using short, even motions. Never stay in one spot to avoid heat build-up ("Rings of Fire").

⚠️ Safety & Hygiene

  • Single-Use Only: Discard the sanding band after every client. Sanding bands cannot be sanitized.

  • Sanitize Mandrel: Always disinfect the metal mandrel bit between services.

  • Fit Check: Ensure you are using the correct mandrel size (3/32" or 1/8") for your machine to prevent vibration or damage to the motor.

How to use

Select the Appropriate Bit: Choose the right STUNNA drill bit based on the area of the nail you are working on (e.g., cuticles, nail plate, or uneven surfaces).

Secure the Drill Bit: Insert the bit into your electric nail file and tighten it securely.

Start at Low Speed: Begin at a lower RPM (up to 30,000 RPM maximum) to ensure control and avoid overheating.

Smooth the Surface: Gently glide the drill bit over the nail surface, focusing on smoothing out uneven spots.

Clean After Use: After use, clean the drill bit to remove any dust or residue.
